TESTIMONIALS

Here’s what other Fellows have been saying about their ODD experience

ODD is a community with a diverse background and a growth mindset. People come together to uplift each other with knowledge and experiences that impact personal and professional lives.

Chaitanya Mendu, Senior Product Designer, Handshake

ODD connects you to a much wider community of designers than I couldn't have imagined building on my own. The program brings designers from all backgrounds to share their wealth of knowledge in a more intimate setting.

Memie Huang , Staff Product Designer, Quizlet

ODD is an energetic, generous, intense melting pot of highly ambitious designers looking for their next steps. It’s like having your own design safe space outside of your company.

Tim Hendriks, Founding Designer, Vinebase

ODD helped give me clarity on my design career path. It helped me discover my unknown unknowns, skills and ideas from the design community that I did not even know existed for me to learn and master.

Hakeeb Bashorun, UX Lead, Seera Group

FAQ

Who should apply?

To be a good fit for On Deck Freelancers, you are probably:

  • A developer, designer, CMS/e-commerce expert, no-code builder, or data analyst (or a combination of any of the above)
  • Someone who works or would like to work with startups
  • Not brand new to freelancing
  • Interested in more than just finding freelance opportunities—excited to build a community of resources, talent, and friends
What does it cost?

On Deck Freelancers is an annual membership that costs $2,990/year. Payment plans are available, and we also have scholarships available for each cohort through the On Deck Access Fund.

Are there scholarships or financing options available?

Our goal is to make On Deck Freelancers accessible to the absolute best talent, no matter their financial situation.

Everyone has the option to pay in four monthly installments, with no interest or additional charges. We also have a limited number of scholarships available thanks to our Access Fund. You can apply for a scholarship after you’ve gone through the regular application process and been accepted into the program.

What is the time commitment?

Between attending sessions, meeting other Fellows 1:1, and curated mastermind groups, you can expect to spend 2–3 hours/week engaging with the program. We recognize that everyone in the program is busy, and that freelancer’s schedules can be especially inconsistent, so we understand that your engagement may vary week by week! All of our sessions are recorded and made available to watch later, and many aspects of the program happen over Slack, so there are lots of opportunities for asynchronous engagement as well.

Is this a fully remote program?

Yes: On Deck Freelancers will be run entirely remotely. This enables participation from all corners of the world. We’ve mastered the playbook for building remote communities and relationship building online, and will apply the same approach here.

Post-COVID, we’ll return to organizing offline programming like dinners, small gatherings, and retreats, but the core Fellowship will remain a remote-first experience.

What time will sessions take place?

The vast majority of our live programming will happen either between 10am–12pm or 4–6pm US Eastern time. Every session is recorded and made available later for those who can’t attend live. There are also plenty of opportunities to engage on your own schedule in smaller groups, or asynchronously via our Slack and other software platforms.

Do I have to participate in every session?

Absolutely not! On Deck Freelancers is a choose-your-own-adventure experience. We built the program so that there's plenty of community, education, and connection sessions—no matter the stage of your freelance journey.

What happens after the first year of membership?

After one year of membership, you will have the opportunity to renew your membership. If you choose not to renew your membership, you will lose access to all On Deck platforms, networks, and content.

Did we miss your question? Drop us a line and we will get back to you ASAP.
